Brand Flexibility - I stay flexible with my brand

Despite your research and branding activities, it’s not always easy to find and keep work or start and run a business. Keep your gaze on the starts and stand firm and true, to you.

Introduction

Like any brand, a person must ensure their branding is flexible. This means that by being flexible, a person can change and adapt to the changing needs of the market or job sphere as and when needed. If your brand is taking you in a direction that you are not happy with, you can change that direction by being flexible. This allows for the opportunity to recreate your brand as you go along. Flexibility allows a person to change and evolve as individuals.

Benefits of brand flexibility

1. Allows a person to take advantage of new opportunities as they arise.

2. Keeps you relevant to the changing needs of industry.

3. Enables you to redesign your brand and keep current.

Skill example

I completed courses on social media and branded myself as a social media marketer. I was struggling to get clients until someone mentioned that I should expand my services to offer search engine optimisation and advertising. I identified the required skills and began learning them. By offering a more complete digital marketing package, I was able to begin getting more clients than ever before.

Matt’s story

Matt, a 30-year-old, is a talented young man. Matt works in the IT division of a large chain store. A part of Matt’s job is web design, all IT related issues, repairs, and maintenance of the online store. Recently management chose to place Matt on the floor to assist the sales division. Matt was hesitant as he believed he didn’t have the skills needed to be a good salesperson.

After a few days, matt joined the sales team. At first, he was apprehensive, but a few days into his new role, he found he was enjoying his job. Matt found that with his extensive IT knowledge, he was able to assist people in every aspect of computers. Because of his knowledge, sales increased on the floor as people felt they were taking counsel from an expert. Matt was genuinely happy as he was able to adapt and evolve in his new role.

He was also able to learn new skills, such as sales, presentation skills, and public speaking. Matt realises that if he were adamant and declined this position, he would not have been able to learn new skills and discover his talent for sales.

How to be flexible with your brand

Flexibility is an important aspect of personal branding. As you grow and evolve, your personal brand may need to change to reflect your new skills, experiences, and values. Here are some ways to be flexible with your personal brand:

  1. Continuously evaluate your brand: Regularly evaluate your personal brand to ensure that it is still relevant and effective. Consider whether your brand is helping you achieve your goals, and whether it accurately reflects who you are and what you have to offer.
  2. Be open to feedback: Be open to feedback from others, and use it to improve your personal brand. Consider seeking feedback from colleagues, mentors, and industry experts.
  3. Stay current: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and changes, and adjust your personal brand accordingly. This may involve updating your skills, learning new technologies, or adapting your messaging.
  4. Embrace new opportunities: Be open to new opportunities that may require you to adjust your personal brand. This may involve taking on new roles, working with new clients, or shifting your focus to a new area.
  5. Be true to yourself: While it's important to be flexible with your personal brand, it's also important to stay true to yourself. Make sure your personal brand aligns with your values and beliefs, and that it accurately reflects who you are and what you stand for.

Remember that personal branding is an ongoing process, and that it requires flexibility and adaptability. By being open to change and willing to adjust your personal brand, you can stay relevant and effective in the ever-changing workplace.
